Blogs home Wagner signs McCrary property?

My oh my what is this

Donkey Georges property on the highway (at 7th and Ames not the gym which he thinks he owns but never has) is covered with Wagner for mayor signs....humm. Has our candidate for mayor lost his mind and decided to support Wagner? No.......but he did forget to make his payments and deeded the property back to its original owners the Lawrenz' family.

Is this the sort of fiscal responsibility we want running our city? Is this the stand up guy that is "concerned" about our town?

Nahhh....its just an over inflated ego running for office.

Wagner signs McCrary property?

Comments

kermit 5 years, 9 months ago

There are also Bonnie Plumberg for Council signs on the property.

p_zinzer 5 years, 9 months ago

ghost, I don't know if you have your facts straight. If you look up the property record on the Douglas County website it shows George as the "in care of" person for the property. That means he isn't the deedholder, but (usually) has a contract for deed on the land. See for yourself:

http://www.douglas-county.com/online_services/valuestaxes/results.asp?Pin=2020401002001000&Plate=B00051A&DisplayYear=2009

Maybe the real jokers are the ones that put Ken Wagner signs on the property?

Someone needs to call Tina and get this straightened out.

0

ghostofphyllis 5 years, 9 months ago

The "joker" that I saw putting the signs on the property was Mr. Lawrenz himself. Further if you cared to have a conversation with the Lawrenz's they would be happy to fill you in on the details of this little land deal. Donkey George was purchasing the land on a contract for deed...and he defaulted due to lack of payment. I think the hard hitting journalists with the Signal should do an article on this dont you think?

0

kermit 5 years, 9 months ago

Can we please remember that these candidates have families that may read this? Name calling really isn't necessary in order to make your point about what you preceive as GM's inadequacies as a candidate.

Also, I point out once again that there are Bonnie P signs on this property too. so whomever is the rightful owner of this property must be endorsing these two candidates.

p_zinzer 5 years, 9 months ago

It's obvious you are bitter about Mr. McCrary. However, as kermie stated, I don't know him to be an evil or sordid person. Would you like to have any and all potential business dealings scrutinized on this public forum or have Myrick, et al poring over your financial ledgers to make a determination if something is or isn't the way it was meant to be?

Hell, I don't know if any of what you're saying is correct. But even if it is, why is it pertinent to George running for mayor? Perhaps there's an understanding between George and the Lawrenzes (sp). Maybe George sold it back to him. Do you really know or are you just flinging hate?

Thank you to kermit and p-zinzer for inserting some rationality into this thread.

It is always encouraging to read some well-reasoned posts on a forum that is designed for thoughtful discussion of community issues. Thanks for your contributions. I hope you will continue to post.

To Kermie-PZ Oddly enough at most levels ones financial ledgers, business dealings, overall integrity, and activities are a good bell weather of an individuals true character. After all would you put a person that cant balance there own affairs in charge of the cities? To answer your questions yes it is VERY relevant and VERY important. This is not flinging hate or being vindictive this is called shining light on a persons true character.

0

p_zinzer 5 years, 9 months ago

Alright, ghost. You've already made tremendous improvement in communicating your ideas. I think your point that one's financial dealings might be a good indicator of the character of a person is valid; however, there are circumstances that are often outside of a person's control. In one's personal finances, it could be that someone lost his or her job, or his (or another close family member's) health is failing and money is going to pay for what the insurance company doesn't. In one's business, an unforeseen market downturn, product liability claim, or otherwise could severely hamper a business's cash flow. The long and the short of it is there are many factors that could CAUSE a situation that have little to do with a person's character.

Now, how someone RESPONDS to a situation is an excellent indicator of one's mettle. If you truly believe what you have asserted, go ask George about it. See what he says the situation is. See how he dealt with it.

Now, you're about halfway to where we need to be on whether it's relevant or not to George running for mayor. Can you succinctly state WHY it is relevant?

woofwoof 5 years, 9 months ago

I don't know either party involved or the particulars of the deal, but since everyone is speculating, I will too!

Maybe party M contracted with party L back when property values were high and now that they aren't, maybe party M took that and the fact the economy is in the dumper into consideration and exercised his right to walk away with a small loss instead of a potentially large one later. If so, I would say party M showed very sound business acumen. Also quite possible that party L is upset that his dog found its' way home. That would sure explain all the support for party Ms' opposition.

0

ghostofphyllis 5 years, 9 months ago

Let me clarify. Default occured as in not making the payments due on a contract for deed. This is not exercising a right to walk away, its called not owning up to your financial obligations. But then a history with "party M" of not living up to contractual obligations does exist. But more about that later...wouldnt be any fun to wash all the laundry at once now would it...

0

p_zinzer 5 years, 9 months ago

OK, ghost, so what you are saying is "Party M" signed a contract for deed that obligated him to make a periodic payment to "Party L" but was unable or unwilling to make said payment. As a result, "Party M" no longer is purchasing the land under contract for deed from "Party L".

Seems harmless enough. What's the rub with this? Does a typical contract for deed contract allow the purchasing party to stop making the payment and therefore just walk away?

0

oliphant 5 years, 9 months ago

All it takes is a little web surfing to see that "Candidate M" operates has created three different legal entities over the last 5 years, all with the same address on Ames:

Baldwin City Athletic Club Ltd Front Lines Fitness L.L.C. Hometown Athletic Club LLC

The registration dates for these companies are spaced curiously a few years apart. Sure there's news out there on the Baldwin City Athletic Club but there's absolutely no news hits whatsoever for the two other companies. Are these examples of the proverbial "shell companies"? If so, I wonder why they are needed? Sounds like somebody's got something to hide.

0

ghostofphyllis 5 years, 9 months ago

P-zinzer

Seems harmless enough? Just out of curiousity when you purchase a house and you just decide to stop making payments...what happens? A typical contract for deed has recourse IE losing the property to foreclosure and other legal remedies.

Let me put this in more simple terms "party M' enters into a contract...defaults..and you think thats harmless?

"Party M" takes an oath of office...a contract with every citizen in the City of Baldwin in 2001. By the end of 2002 he has bailed out and DESERTED his word, his honor, and his commitment to this city. Any harm in that?

But lets keep moving down the list of "Party M' little issues with contracts. I noticed on Donkey George little website he wants everyone to come in ask him about anything....

Ask him about his "contractual obligation" to his old employer Orthotech. The part about signing a non compete clause and violating that which led to the Donkey being sued by his former employer....any harm in that?

But hey if this is your kinda guy then "Donkey George for Mayor"!!!!

0

ghostofphyllis 5 years, 9 months ago

Just a quick side note after reading Donkey Georges answers to the Singals questions. He says that most people over 60 dont know what conservation is? George if you are reading this you are dumber than previously thought. Environmentalism and conservation efforts date back to the 1930's not to mention those started by those of us that are teens of the 1960s and are NOW OVER 60. You sir...are an idiot and you just managed to insult everyone in this community over 60...bravo George well played..

0

woofwoof 5 years, 9 months ago

gop- I am flabbergasted by your most recent post. It's obvious that you lack reading for comprehension skills. It's obvious that you don't know the meanings of the words conserve and conservation when used in the context of this article.

The overall childishness of your posts coupled with the name calling tend to make me think that you are actually about 13 years old and that George shorted you for doing a crappy job mowing his yard last summer.

Please, do the right thing by apologizing to George.

Now go to the naughty corner and don't come out until your all grown up.

ghost,

You did a great job by putting the issue of Candidate M's apparent lack of follow-through on things into a wider perspective -- especially to how it might relate to the trust of public office. You don't have to call M names to make a point.

pz

0

ghostofphyllis 5 years, 9 months ago

Bow-wow and PZ

Yes your right folks I will cease on the name calling....can I keep "Donkey George" though cause its kinda got a ring to it. But I have to refrain from being apologetic. Nope that will never happen. Now on the conserve versus conservation...he is saying that people over 60 dont know how to conserve correct? Thats the way I read it. I wonder how people growing up in the depression and have "conserved" for a lifetime feel about this stereotype of a statement that "DG" has thrown out there. Also love the part in his responses about the natural gas being under the powerplant. Apparently unbeknownst to us, between washing his jock strap and shining his dumb bells "DG" became not only a geologist but something of a petro-chemical engineer. Drill a well.....ok...does he realize it still has to go thru a refining process.

Dear Ghost of Phyllis (or can I call you by your initials, KH),

Are you in the midst of a deep homosexual crisis? Or does your obsession with GM stem from the very large chip sitting on your shoulder? You keep talking about a donkey, but actually you're the ASS.

0

woofwoof 5 years, 9 months ago

Sorry gop- Bow-wow is my evil twin.

So, you say that your over sixty and that you live in our fair community. Let's say I meet you on the street and we strike up a conversation about the economy. I ask you, "Times are tough, do you find your family having to conserve to get by?" You reply, "Yes, youbetcha, WE HAVE TO."

So tell me gop- Why would I think that you don't know how to conserve???????

And yes, there is a good chance that there is natural gas under the power plant.

And no, natural gas is not refined.

And thank you for taking it down a few notches.

Wow! Looks like 'ol "Phyllis" took my advice and started blogging. A word of advice, Phyl: the comma and the apostrophe are your friends. You have managed to mortally wound the English language with more than 30 grammatical errors in your above posts. Two of my perennial favorites are: "there" when you mean "their" and "your" when you mean "you're." Looks like you are breaking your own rules against raving away like a maniac here on SpeakOut, not to mention trying to use a language you don't comprehend, let alone speak. Maybe you should start writing your posts in Latin. You're probably better with the syntax of that language, and since you seem to have nothing sensible to say, it wouldn't matter to anyone else.

0

greyghost 5 years, 9 months ago

gop, How can I get a hold of the Lawrenz family? Please publish their phone number or address, no one named Lawrenz is listed in BC.
Also, are your initials really K.H.? There are eleven people listed in BC phone book with those initials.

0

hellothere 5 years, 9 months ago

WoofWoof, Why are you and G.M. so confident that there is gas under the power plant and are you as a tax payer ready to fork over the $15 million or more to conduct this little science experiment?

0

123456 5 years, 9 months ago

I heard that the moon is made out of cheese, but the power plant is closer.

0

p_zinzer 5 years, 9 months ago

grey,

The folks that ghost is referring to are the Lorenzens. Perhaps that will help.

pz

0

greyghost 5 years, 9 months ago

Okay, gop is encouraging us to ask Mr. Lawrenz about how McCrary didn't pay him. It actually sounded like gop knew the Lawrenz family. Now, thanks to pz, we all find out that gop knows the property owner so well, he doesn't know how to spell or pronounce their last name. Jesus.

So, gop, maybe you can talk your good friends, the Lorenzen's, into signing up on speakout! and telling us all what really happened.

0

ghostofphyllis 5 years, 9 months ago

Ahhh...well no homosexual crisis here since I am female.

I do apologize the owners name is lorenzen not Lawrenz my error. I in no way said I knew these people. I just know the story of what happened.

Natural Gas actually is refined thank you very much read the following link as a source please.

http://www.naturalgas.org/naturalgas/processing_ng.asp

And Nancy...poor nancy...reduced to counting syntax errors....I expected so much more from you....Have you translated the Latin yet? You will love it.

0

cranky 5 years, 9 months ago

KH/GoP,

Don't be foolish. We know who you are and you're certainly not a female. Besides, any fool can see that a male is writing your posts. Nice try though. You're female and oh, you don't know the Lawrenz family! Funny...

You seem concerned that a potential mayor may or may not have had some financial issues over a piece of property. Should we be concerned that a former mayor can't properly construct a sentence? Voice your opinions if you want, but don't stoop to the depths we've seen thus far. It makes you look like a very small man.

0

greyghost 5 years, 9 months ago

gop/kh says. . . . "I do apologize the owners name is lorenzen not Lawrenz my error. I in no way said I knew these people. I just know the story of what happened."

You don't know jack shat! I think cranky is on to something. Not only are you a very small man, you're also illiterate.

0

ghostofphyllis 5 years, 9 months ago

Cranky/GG

Well now that you have put former mayor together with KH I see where you are going with this. No I am not a former mayor of this town, and yes I am very much a female. . But I am certainly a person that does not want an individual that is incredibly deceptive about his business dealings as well as financial affairs running this city into the ground.

Personal annimosity aside a "GM" at the helm would be disasterous for this community.

0

woofwoof 5 years, 9 months ago

Hellothere & gop - I never said that I was confident, I said there is a good chance as there are natural gas deposits surrounding Baldwin. It only makes sense that there would be under Baldwin also.

A lot of rural land holders in the immediate area have owned their own natural gas wells since the 1960s. I would guess that I could find at least 50 land owners within a 2 mile radius of Baldwin City limits who currently use their own natural gas.

I own a natural gas well that produces 200psi at the wellhead. Let the well free blow and it will maintain 165psi. My clothes dryer, hot water heater, stove, home heat and shop heat are all natural gas. These all operate from a 3/4" supply line at about 5oz. of pressure.

I do NOT own a refinery nor do the many other people in the area who have natural gas wells.

15 million dollars?!?!?! My well was drilled and finished and ran a 2" line 3/8 of a mile to my house for just under 5 thousand 20 years ago.

I hope this clears up some of your confusion.

woofwoof

woofwoof

This is not a negative comment but wouldnt it make sense to make sure the natual gas were running thru a 5 million dollar power plant be refined so as to not cause problems? No offence but those engines seem a tad more complex than your cloths dryer at home. Further I dont know the size of the line that feed the power plant but I assume is has to be a lot larger than 3/4 of an inch.

Also I dont know where 15 million figure came from that seems very high to drill a well.

My point is that its not as easy as punching a hole in the ground and out pops the gas ready to burn in our engines.

Just some thoughts.

0

woofwoof 5 years, 9 months ago

gop- I don't know the specifics of Baldwins' engine, so I can't say for sure if it is capable of burning gaseous fuels. If it is, then I would say yes, it would burn the gas from my well just fine. Some wells around here have varying amounts of water blown up with the gas. This is usually easily removed with a condensation trap. The main issue would be the free blow of the well and whether it would produce a constant volume of gas to run the engine.

My well produces 165psi free blow from a 2" well casing. My well produces dry gas. I would think that would run Baldwins' engine just fine. Most wells around here only produce 15 to 80 psi. You could always drill 3 or 4 or 10 wells and plumb them together to get the volume required.

All modern engines are electronically controlled to be able to utilize multiple fuels cleanly and efficiently. Some municipalities that generate electricity use natural gas, field gas, landfill gas or digester gas to run their engines.

It is never as easy as just punching a hole in the ground- You may not hit gas

If you do- You may not have the pressure or volume required You may have so much water that you can't control it

Or- You may come up with a super gas well with no problems in which case everybody says "WOW, that was easy".

Ask Willow Springs Township if the fiscal responsibility of an official (and in this case his wife) is relevant.

NanCrisp 5 years, 9 months ago

Hey, Phyllis:

I "translated" your "Latin" quite a while back. I had my 14yo daughter, who is a second-year Latin student, critique your sentence. I'll admit to facetiousness in saying you should stick with Latin. Your babel fish translation of an English sentence into Latin lacks much. You could at least have attempted to do something about the obviously English spelling of "misguided" showing up in the middle of the sentence as a tip-off to your use of translating software. (Yes, even one as dense as I could see that something was amiss with that word, as "-ed" is not a proper Latinate word ending.) What a sham you are. Tsk tsk.

McCrary signs on Lorenzen property. OMFG!!!!! What is going on now? I've just gotta know why there are McCrary signs on that property now. Please, someone spread some gossip about it so I'll know how to vote. This has really thrown me a curve ball.

0

oliphant 5 years, 9 months ago

greyghost,

I doubt very many are still reading this thread, but at least you'll know to look much harder to see that Georgie has placed his sign just as close to the property line as possible on the Lorenzen property. Kind of an @s$holeish thing to do if you ask me, but George is exactly that kind of guy. I don't believe he has a clue about anything he does. He's just the proverbial bull in the china shop.
