Austin's Memory

I am concerned that parents weren't notified that there had been a tragedy in our school. We were notified when a gun came to school. I know that there are kids that go home to an empty house because parents work. I think parents would have liked to have known that something had happened and that their child may have been affected by the news. Whether it was a friend that they knew who knew Austin or they themselves knew him. There was also announcements mayde when Alex died from an operation and she wasn't attending at the time, she had graduated. I also find it sad that those kids who wanted to put together something in memory of Austin, and then give it to the family at a later date, will never have the opportunity since it was removed from the locker and is being held by the principal since he thinks the kids are "glorifying suicide". Nothing has been said officially if it was or wasn't. I think the princial is using his own personal opinion on the matter and not letting the kids grieve in the only way that they know how. Nothing was said to these kids over the intercom that there were even couselors available. The teachers told the kids each hour if they needed to go to the office to see a coulselor that they could. That isn't the teachers job. That is the job of the administration to provide that information and to make sure there is plenty of help for these kids. I hope I am not alone in this. And if the Board and the Superintendent isn't aware of the situation then they need to be.
