Is there some law against setting up permanant camp / residence in a public park ? Lawrence seems well equipped to handle numerous homeless, would that be a better place for them to go ?

  1. Camping is allowed only in designated areas and is subject to restrictions as posted. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of not more than 14 consecutive days although a 14-day extension may be obtained with written permission from the park manager. A five-day absence is required before returning to the park to camp again. Any property left unused or unoccupied for 48 hours is subject to removal. http://www.kdwp.state.ks.us/news/State-Parks/Park-Regulations

Do the homeless people happen to know about the free hot dogs and swimming on July 4th? You should tell them about it and while they're not watching throw their stuff in the lake. Then you won't be bothered by them anymore.

Yes, he's known in local circles as the Great Usurper of Nom de Plumes.

Concerns with regards to these people living out at the lake. They have been there for at least four months now. Baldwin City Police say it's not their responsibility and they can live there.

Here are a list of numbers to call and complain:

Mr. Kelly Rockers (in charge of this lake) 913-845-2665

his supervisior: Mr. John Silovsky 785-273-6740

Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, Clinton Unit RR 1 Box 120E Lawrence, Kansas 66044 ~ (785) 842-8562 Regional Office ~ (785) 273-6740

Better regulations regarding the camping are needed. As it currently stands they can stay there for free. Since this lake has only three outhouse facilities there are Zero showers or water facilities. These campers have made a make shift shower and they go to Sante Fe Market for free water just on the other side of Sante Fe Markets pumps.

The state lake is not in the city limits so no BCPD can't do anything. As for KDWP Yes they need to enforce the law equally. If it was Clinton lake they would have to be out of there. Maybe a call to the Sheriff is due too. They have special patrols at Clinton and Lone Star. Maybe they need to come over here too.

My goodness. In this heat are you kidding me? I am wondering why anyone would begrudge homeless people living at the lake?

Run them off to where? We should be more concerned about them having food and water. I wonder where compassion is anymore?

Maybe I don't understand the place of fear some people have regarding those who live in poverty.

Why don't you go down there and have them stay with you if you are worried about them.

Living in your home and living on community owned property are two different things. I am at the lake a lot. I canoe there, and hike there with my dogs. The hunters bother me more than homeless people. I pray none of us are ever in that situation. Apparently this is in your backyard ~ just guessing.

Just an update. I saw the KDWP ranger down there Saturday checking fishing licenses of campers. There were only two sets of campers on the west side.

And why would a hunter bother you? Guess what this is still a mostly rual county and people can hunt. If you don't like it go move to KC, just rememeber that is what our Country was founded by. Famers and hunters.

It's just a bit unsettling to have a hunter come up the side of the dam with his rifle as you walk your dog. There is shooting practice out there too. Not a problem with me as long as they know what they are doing. What are the consistent odds of that?
