I think this is the first time in history that my upload speed beat my download speeds...

That was the exact issue for me for months on end. Switched to DSL from CenturyLink and have not had a single problem since.

I have had about the same results in the past few months. Download speeds less than 1.0 MB/s. I called Mediacom to complain and they tried to sell me phone service (typical). Once I got past the sales department, the tech people told me that they knew about the problem and had a "resolution date" (evidently a date when they expect the problem to be fixed) of March 31, 2011. Until then, they cut my bill in half. Can't complain about that too much. Waiting until April 1st to do another download speed test so I can call and gripe again when the issue isn't resolved.

That's what I've been told by Mediacom as well. They have given us a good price break in the meantime. What happened is they oversold this area and need to upgrade to be able to provide for all the new customers. Seems like a better idea would have been to stop accepting new customers, upgrade, then add more customers. I told them customer loyalty goes both ways- if they treat me well, I'll stay a customer and cut them some slack when they screw up but if this doesn't fix it, I'm going to try Centurylink. We've had Mediacom since we moved here 6 years ago and while the service has had it's ups and downs, it's never been as bad as it's been the past couple months.

Well, I have waited about as long as I can stand. I am tired of waiting for the day that never comes with Mediacom. They talked about some sort of fix for the very slow speeds and I'm just about fed up.... I have 10 to 11 megs down at 6:00am and I can not even stream you tube video at 6:00pm. Looks like they really just don't care.... Maybe if they lose enough customers, the rest of you will have better speed...

I been in contact with Mediacom now since last October over the degregation of speeds they are charging for. Last month I too was told that they have a utilization problem across the mid-west. And that a fix was in place for March 31. That day has come and gone. Called again last week and was told via. a tech that the date was set for March 31. But it could run into April 31. And that I should stay in contact with them weekly. For the short term I just canceled my 12 MB service and went to the 3 MB package until end of April. If by then this issue has not been resolved. Then I will drop Mediacom and go with Centurylink.

For those of you who already switched. How are your speeds? Peak and off peak times? And I plan to buy my own DSL modem. What kind are you all using?

And by the way. I was informed that Mediacom is no longer issuing refunds or discounts for lack of service. If you want to continue using them for 12 MB service or more I suggest you drop down to lower tier service package until this gets resolved.
