The combination of strong and gusty winds, low relative humidity,
and dry surface fuels will lead to elevated fire danger this afternoon
across portions of central,east central and southeast Missouri as
well as parts of southwest Illinois.
Southwest winds will become westerly and increase by late morning
to 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph. The wind will remain
strong and gusty through the afternoon as it shifts to the
northwest. Temperatures well above seasonal average will
contribute to low relative humidity with values less than 30
percent in the afternoon.
These weather conditions combined with very dry grasses, dry leaf
litter, and dry underbrush could result in the rapid spread of
fires. Therefore, outdoor burning is highly discouraged today.
