...COLD AIR FUNNEL CLOUDS EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE MID
SOUTH THIS AFTERNOON...
THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF COLD AIR FUNNEL CLOUDS ASSOCIATED WITH
SHOWERS THAT ARE DEVELOPING ACROSS THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL. COLD AIR
FUNNELS WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON ACROSS
NORTHEAST ARKANSAS...THE MISSOURI BOOTHEEL...NORTHWEST TENNESSEE.
COLD AIR FUNNELS USUALLY DEVELOP BENEATH SHOWERS WHEN VERY COLD
AIR ALOFT OVERLAYS WARM MOIST CONDITIONS NEAR THE SURFACE OF THE
EARTH. THIS SITUATION EXISTS ACROSS THE MID SOUTH TODAY AS AN
UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO MOVE EAST ACROSS THE
AREA.
COLD AIR FUNNELS ARE USUALLY BRIEF AND RARELY TOUCH THE GROUND. IF
THESE FUNNELS DO TOUCH DOWN...THEY USUALLY ONLY PRODUCE WINDS TO
50 MPH OR LESS AND IN MOST INSTANCES DO NOT POSE A SIGNIFICANT
THREAT TO LIFE OR PROPERTY.
IF ANY OF THESE COLD AIR FUNNELS TOUCH DOWN...PLEASE REPORT THE
TOUCH DOWN TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MEMPHIS.
