...Heat index values from 100 to 105 continue this afternoon in
southern Illinois and southeast Missouri...
Heat index values will remain in the 100 to 105 degree range this
afternoon across most of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri,
and the Purchase area of west Kentucky. Across the Pennyrile
region of west Kentucky and southwest Indiana, somewhat lower heat
indices from 95 to 100 are expected once temperatures recover in
the wake of the eclipse. Actual air temperatures will rise back
into the lower 90s.
Heat index values will fall through the 90s after 6 pm.
If you are planning to be outside today for an extended period of
time, be sure to keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Look
for opportunities to get out of the heat from time to time, and
get into the shade or in an air conditioned building.
Keep watch on those persons who may be unaccustomed to the heat
and humidity.
