I agree, the signs were there for years. I guess since the Chief didn't know it was illegal in Lawrence to do the same thing when he was stopped after he first moved here he didn't want to enforce it in his town.

My point is that the measure of a childs education is not in how great the building was or the amount of material items that a school has.
That is such a Johnson county attitude. We must have the newest or most expensive to show our sucess.
Your statement putting down the server at McDonalds says it all about you.

And if we look at Mr. Harris' examples his two sons went to the same schools, in the same buildings that we have now and they seemed to have done just fine, not just fine, but great.
So i am tired of everyone saying that if we don't build it now, or improve our ball fields etc. our children will fail or fall behind.
If that is the case Mr Harris must not be that good at all since I am sure that when he went to school there were no computers in the class room at all. How did he get to be an educator at a college? Becasue he had a good teacher and he wanted to improve himselt that is how. It was not the building he was in, or the type of desk he sat in, or the type of field he played in.

if we are talking about economics and spending, Lets ask
Why didn't the district keep up the buildings that they have. Why don't they save a little money or cut back somewhere else and buy the things they want with the money they have.
Why does the tax payer always have to come up with more more more when we talk about Schools, Citys, and Gov. in general.
Why do I have to find the extra money or cut back somewere so they can have more.
Give me a break.
Give me an example in the last two decades that taxes went down.

And if we are talking technology, I don't consider all the MACs in the school Technology. Tell me how many companies use MACs as their network.
You all are talking about how competitive in the job market our students are. I don't any student with just a highschool deploma that is competitive. Give me a break You don't put on a job resume that you were on the varsity football team in highschool.
The whole point in this bond debate is that the taxes are not going up just for a little while. Their long range plane includes another bond issue in 5-6 years for a new JHS and then another in 3-4 years for improvements to the HS. You are looking at increased taxes for the next 30 years. Most of us will be retired by then (or moved out of Baldwin).
I guess all of you that lived here all your life and went to school in the current buildings didn't amount to a thing, that is why we need new ones so that our kids will be better educated.

Why is it that the school district can't keep within the budget when everyone else can? Then they want more money to build. The city of Baldwin, The Lawrence Public school dist. and even the troubled City of Lawrence can lower their mill levies, but not USD 348.
Read the other article about how they want to build a parking lot on the land that they have by the JHS. But yet you say the budget is tight. I don't care if you park the buses on a gravel lot and neither does any other tax payer in this district. Come on enough is enough. Give me a break!!

Well one of the students at JR High is my child who came from Catholic School, so we have been paying taxes all along. We are not new to the district,
You are right, I don't call 8 students a real increase. I would expect #'s to change year to year by 5-10. Now if for 4 years straight they increased by 10 that would be something.

Yes at the cost of the tax payers!
Why don't we sell the electrical power system and let the private sector run it. We can have a rate like they do in the surrounding area which is about 33% cheaper.
