School board sides with safety over savings in busing decision

Why not build a sidewalk? Or is that kind of thinking too original in Baldwin? When this stupid school was built I wondered if they expected any children to walk there, being set back off of a highway without any sidewalks. Naturally the people I talked to said that they wouldn't want their kids walking anyway, what with the non-existent threat of predators. The fact is that kids are a lot more likely to face a lifetime of health problems from inactivity early in their lives than from any kind of predator. What's incredible to me is that no one apparently can think anymore-- somehow the community of Baldwin has decided that continuous busing, year after year, is more cost efficient than building a sidewalk and encouraging healthy habits such as walking. Barring physical handicaps, there is no excuse for a child not to be walking in a town as small as Baldwin.
