My math is different from the District's. 20 plus 8 plus 22.315 plus 21.5 is 71.815. This is right at a 3 mill increase over last year's 68.833 mills. What am I missing?
It would have been nice to see a decrease as a result of the closing of two outlying schools. . . Apparently all the savings have been spent. Or, could it be that the savings really didn't pan out?
Speaking of watering, why is the football practice field being watered during the heat of the day? What a waste! A lot of that is just evaporating. Studies show that grass responds best to an inch of water in the early morning hours.
Since we have vacant buildings, we should just use those for the Administration offices. Why do we need to deplete the Capital Outlay Fund for this? We need to keep up the routine maintenance of the existing equipment, facilities and buses. What else is on the list for the Capital Outlay money?
When some of our bonds are paid off, then consider additional upgrades.
We will all be keeping an eye on the new budget for a mill levy decrease. The savings from closing the outlying elementary schools should show up this year. Right?
Torch, you are taking full advantage of reading the paper for free, so unless you're volunteering to write local sports articles, you should be happy for what you get. If you hadn't heard, the paper had to lay off many employees due to budget cuts. We are lucky to still have a local paper.
We definitely need some communication on this matter. A 4 million dollar public building built to be a "safe room" should be available for the residents of Baldwin to use. There is a trailer park across the street and many others who need a shelter.
I'd like to hear from City Hall about what the issues are. An article posted in this newspaper last May has Mr. Dorathy saying that the building will be available to the public. We need to know why it is not!
I agree Torch. We were spoiled by Jimmy who had an awesome camera and really worked hard at providing quality pictures. Maybe the Signal should pay the High School journalism kids for free lance shots? Just a suggesion.

Baldwin board agrees to put Marion Spring on market
It's my understanding that the Board is going to try to re-purpose the old auditorium for either classrooms or the cheer-wrestling practice space.
