Baldwin board selects Kansas City, Mo., developer's proposal to purchase, redevelop Chapel Street properties

Well, that wasn't the purpose of my statement, to argue everyone else is doing it, I was just pointing out Baker isn't the only institution who has reached the same conclusion...which is, especially for freshmen and sophomores, it is significantly better to have them living on-campus where they can more quickly adjust, be held accountable, and participate in the things the university has to offer. When folks live off-campus in small liberal colleges, it becomes a barren, wasteland with not much to bond students together and build that sense of community. Sure, the money is nice, I would imagine, rather than having empty buildings that are half full that you are paying full time utilities on, etc. So, hence the reason it is not an uncommon practice among small, liberal arts colleges and universities.

Ticket leads to petition drive for crosswalk light

I'll agree that many previous boards have made some errors...show me a BoE that hasn't. However, in this example, the current high school has been in place since 1995, and that means the current junior high has been around a lot longer. So we're talking probably three decades ago since the decision to put school buildings on the north side of 56 happened. If you expect to hold this board, or any, accountable for three future decades, you have no common sense. Not to mention that the city also holds some culpability in this. They decide when and where sidewalks go. So, you see, we are a community, and we have made community decisions, either by who we vote in, or what we allow to happen by not voicing our opinion or voting others out of positions. Stop blaming seven folks who are doing volunteer work the best they can for decisions that you get the benefit of hindsight to evaluate. Soon, we will not get any decent board members because this city routinely bashes them. Who would want the job now?

A fine example is this most recent decision about the sale of the old PC building and gymnasium. No matter which way they voted, they were going to be blamed by somebody for something. Take the extra $20k and they are greedy. Take the $70k bid and they would be called short-sighted and not nearly frugal enough in a very tight economic time. It is so easy to cast stones. Luckily no one here lives in glass houses.

It is pretty common amongst Baker's peer institutions, though.

The school buildings north of 56 have been a there long time...probably well before the district needed to worry about traffic issues.

I agree. That is a crappy ticket to get. A warning, I could see, but a ticket? Ridiculous. That impacts a persons insurance, I'm sure, and just because they didn't stop for a waiting pedestrian...when that isn't even what the law says. Of course, maybe there are two sides to this story that should be told or understood.

It isn't hard for Baker students to get approved for exemption to live off campus after their sophomore year.

Baldwin High School coach selected to hall of fame

Congrats to Mr. Zuzzio. I hope Coach Spielman receives similar honors and recognition soon. He has accomplished so much that it would be a travesty not to honor him similarly.

City to approach Baker, school district about interest in bringing Internet upgrade to Baldwin City

Or, more likely, communities that do not keep out in front will wait until the prices are lower, and then jump on board when they actually need these services.

El Patron to open in downtown Baldwin City within days

I see that some of the El Mezcals do have several critical violations, but I am having trouble finding any restaurants that don't. Granted, I didn't search each and every one, and I agree that there should be consequences, but let's not act like they are the only ones getting caught with a few improper violations.
