Merle was and is more than a coach. He is a maker of boys into men. Men that anyone would be proud to call their neighbor, father, or friend. That is what makes the world a better place.

Merle, simply put, is a man of integrity! The world could use a lot more men, women, and children just like him!

I cosign with the first two posters here.
I've known Merle virtually all my life, he's more than a good friend to me and I think this is a great idea.
BTW, I loved the headline of the Signal:
"Merle Venable Complex a Possibility". Possibility? Heck, it's a verifiable certitude! ! !

I would rather name it for a local person like Merle, then to name it after some President or elected official.

Glad you liked the headline, Highstreet. Glad to see the votes, too.

Coach Venable taught a lot of us "hard heads" to respect others and gave us the tenacity to develop a "never give up attitude."
I for one am very grateful to have known such a fine teacher, coach and citizen. I certainly would sign on to help make this happen.
