I think the city should pay the electric bill for the lights at the new school ballfields. Can you believe they are too cheap to do this any more? They have done it for the past 25 years free of charge, but now they expect the school board to come up with it out of their budget. Everyone knows how tight education budgets are. We can't sacrifice our children's education for this. The city gets all the benefits for it anyhow. They should do their part and pay for the lights.

Exactly how is this not still coming out of our pockets? Where do you suppose "the school board" gets it's money? Do you think "the city" makes electricity out of thin air? I'm disturbed to find that I've been subsidizing this through higher bills for my home in all likeliihood. (Please forgive the quotation marks, they are to emphasize that we, property owners with or without children in school, fund these entities.) I think if you want to watch your kids play after sunset YOU should pay the bill. I find it appalling both fiscally and environmentally that Baker burns the Liston stadium lights for half a dozen kids to throw a frisbee around for hours. I'm sure Baker gets a lower rate for that hundreds of dollars a night that we all get to help pay on OUR bills. I'm sure laid off Baker staff loves paying for that on their electric bills.

Well put. saw, on the "school board's" electricity.

Saw is right.

Along with that a few weeks ago the lights were on a 9 am. There is no responsibility when you are running lights on someone else's dime. I will bet when the school has to pay they will turn them off a lot quicker.

The City Council is a bunch of lying scumbags. They promised that they would pay for the lights but then they pulled the funding. That is dishonest. The children deserve the opportunity to play in tournaments in Baldwin City instead of having to travel all the time. I don't want to see one DIME of the school's budget be taken from education to pay for what the City should be required to pay.

Huh, tea? When did the city council promise to pay for the lights? Do you have that in writing? The council did decide to do away with all free utilities. That was for Maple Leaf, the theatre group, the school district and everyone. That's in writing.

We, as taxpayers, still pay for those lights. They should be paid for by those that use the lights, i.e. user fees through the recreation commission when the school district isn't using them, don't you think?

Previous councils and mayors have always provided free electricity to the school for lights at the sports fields. Precident has been set. This council should be bound by that, if nothing else, in the spirit of decency. This was no doubt the work of the scumbag appointed friend of the mayor who is on the council illegally.

Precedence. Decency. If you really want a good chuckle read these definitions for 'teabagger'. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=teabagger

Mr T--you are a very clever fellow, however I am not buying the act---your reverse psychology or "pathology" isn't working. I think I have you figured out and am getting quite the chuckle from it.

Now that you mention it, solo, I have an inkling now, too. A chuckle for me, too.

Well, there are enough lemmings in Baldwin to pass every single increase in taxes so apparently there is money to throw away in this town.

Don't blame the council or the school board. Blame your fellow citizens for giving away your money.
