The Baldwin Junior High School Performing Arts Center is available for a community tornado shelter during school and non-school hours. Remotely operated locks on double steel doors on the buildings north side will allow access once a tornado siren sounds. Residents are asked to obey rules the school district established for its use.

Performing Arts Center offers Baldwin City residents shelter during tornadoes

With another snow said to be headed this way, it’s easy to forget March 1 marks the beginning of severe weather season in Kansas. Baldwin City residents needing a reminder need only recall two years ago when on Feb. 29 sirens sounded warning of a tornado spotted on the ground west of town.
