Featured speaker Jocelyn Leonard tells the Class of 2013 bad things can change lives in a second. The question, she told the class, was how you respond to those situations.
The former Baldwin City resident and teacher lost her son Wes to sudden cardiac arrest two years ago after he scored the winning layup in a Michigan state championship game. Since that time, she and her family have started the Wes Leonard Heart Team to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and to advocate for the placement of automated external defibrillators, which would have saved her son's life, in schools.
