Dorothy Jane Hemphill
Dorothy Jane Hemphill, 86, mother of Steve (Karen) Hemphill of Baldwin City, passed on to be with her heavenly family on Thurs., Feb. 14, 2013, at Clare Bridge Senior Living in Wichita, KS.
Dorothy grew up in the Moran and LaHarpe areas. In 1947 she married Frank Hemphill and they made their home in Humboldt in 1953 where he taught and coached and she raised their three children and later was the elementary school librarian. Mr. Hemphill died in 1999 and she moved to the Wichita area in 2009.
Survivors include her 3 children: Steve (Karen) Hemphill of Baldwin City, Rick (Barbara) Hemphill of Derby and Jane Stout of Derby; grandchildren Craig (Hannah) and Kayla Stout, Matthew, Sara, Erick (Michelle), Tom (Morgan) and Adam Hemphill; and two step great-grandchildren, Shelby and Emily Lawson.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m., Mon., Feb. 18, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church with burial following in the Moran (KS) Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Humboldt United Methodist Church or Alzheimer’s Association and may be sent to Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, 16 N. Buckeye, Iola, KS 66749.
