Gladys Myrtle Deye 1916 - 2011 Emporia

Services for Gladys Myrtle Hahs Deye, 95, Emporia, were Friday, Sept. 30, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia. Burial was at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Olpe.
Mrs. Deye died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011.
She was born March 12, 1916, at the family farm in Sedgwickville, Mo., the daughter of Theodore and Mary Hahs She earned her Teaching Certificate at Southeast Missouri State College and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Risco, Mo. In 1941, she married the Rev. Armin Deye and moved to Minnesota. Mrs. Deye managed parsonages in five different churches in southeast Minnesota. During this time she created oil paintings and authored a cookbook based on the best 25 years of “Apron Strings by Gladys,” as featured in “The Lutheran Journal.”
Her husband of nearly 64 years, Armin, died earlier.
Survivors include her children, Harold (Jan) Deye, Dottie (Ken) Snow, formerly of Baldwin City, Kathryn Riemer, Donald (Lindy) Deye, and Carol (Fletcher) Russell; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-granddchildren.
The family suggests memorials to any of her former churches; Messiah Lutheran Cemetery Fund, Ruth Circle, LWML and Hand in Hand Hospice, Emporia. Memorials may be sent in care of Charter Funeral Home, 501 W. Sixth St., Emporia, KS 66801.
