John Frederick Lawrenz 1936 - 2011 Gardner
Memorial services for John Frederick Lawrenz, 74, Gardner, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at First United Methodist Church, Baldwin City.
Mr. Lawrenz died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, at his home.
He was born June 12, 1936, in rural Douglas County, near Clearfield, the son of Fredrick William and Louise Blanch (Murdoch) Lawrenz. He was a graduate of Vinland High School and KC Technical College.
Mr. Lawrenz moved to Gardner 33 years ago. He was a technician for Kings Avionics at New Century, retiring in 2001. He was a member of First Light United Methodist Church of Gardner, served as its first treasurer, and also served on the Executive Committee for the Kansas Area United Methodists Rural Fellowship. He worked on CROP Walk and Neighbor Helping Neighbor annual projects.
He married Marilyn Jean Schneider on Dec. 16, 1978 in Eudora. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include five children, Darren (Christina) Lawrenz, Baldwin City, Laura Brown, Westphalia, Cricket Mercer, Lawrence, Wesli Johnson, Gardner, and J. Norris Baldwin City; two brothers, Robert Lawrenz, Eudora, and Jim Lawrenz, Baldwin City; a sister, Catherine Hess, Good Thunder, Minn.; and six grandchildren.
Cremation arrangements are being handled by Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner.
