Donald Merritt Sawyer 1930 - 2011 Baldwin City

Graveside services for Donald Merritt Sawyer, 80, Baldwin City, will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City.
Mr. Sawyer died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 14, 1930, in Spring Hill, the son of Floyd and Zula (Larrick) Sawyer.
Mr. Sawyer grew up in Edgerton, then moved to Wellsville after serving from 1948 to 1952 in the U.S. Navy. He also lived in Louisburg, Paola, Lawrence and Ottawa before moving to Baldwin City, where he has resided for the past 48 years.
He was a foreman for Penny’s Concrete and Killough Construction, both of Ottawa. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator for King’s Construction and a dirt superintendent for LRM Industries of Lawrence.
On Jan. 16, 1953, he married Willa McCauley in Wellsville. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Ricky Ray (Lorie) Sawyer, Lawrence, and Ronnie Joe (Zabida) Sawyer, Lehigh Acres, Fla.; two daughters, Robin Irene Peters of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Tammy Renee (Craig) Davis, Ottawa; a brother, Leon Sawyer, Lawrence; two sisters, Junadah Admire, Kerrville, Texas, and Dollie Jean Moore, Baldwin City; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the funeral home, where family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
