Janie M. Smith 1920 - 2010 Wellsville

Services were Friday for Janie M. Smith, 89, Wellsville. Burial followed in Princeton Cemetery. She died March 17, 2010, at Wellsville Manor Care Center.
She was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Ottawa, the daughter of William and Cecilia (Hazlett) Harkins.
Mrs. Smith was a longtime resident of Franklin County and graduated from Neosho County Community College with a degree in nursing. She was a nurse at Ransom Memorial Hospital for 26 years.
She married Clarence R. “Bud Kirkland on Jan. 11, 1936, in Garnett. He died June 14, 1962. She married Francis “Lee” Smith on Dec. 20, 1966, in Ottawa. He died in 1981.
Survivors include four daughters, Magdalene Andrade and husband Joe, Prairie Village, Betty Kluender, Overland Park, Karen Green, Wellsville, and Cherry and husband Rick, Eudora; one son, Jim Kirkland, Bowling Green, Kent.; a son-in-law, Dwight Thuro, Wellsville; a sister, Agnes Wood, Colorado Springs; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Clarence Kirkland, Jr.; a daughter, Nancy Thuro; five brothers; three sisters; and two granddaughters.
