Betty Nicolay 1922 - 2010 Baldwin City

Funeral services for Betty Nicolay, 87, Baldwin City, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery north of Lyndon. Mrs. Nicolay died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born on April 17, 1922, in Osage City, the daughter of Robert and Migonette Rice Burd. She had lived in Osage County for many years, in and around Lawrence and had lived in Baldwin City since 1999.
Mrs. Nicolay had worked as a practical nurse in Lawrence for 18 years. She was a homemaker and care giver.
She married James Nicolay Sr. on Oct 12, 1940. in Osage City.
Mrs. Nicolay is survived by her three children, Mary Louise Anderson of Carbondale, Ed Nicolay and Suzi Gottstein, both of Baldwin City; her sister, Bessie Rissen of Topeka; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim on Oct. 26, 2001. Also preceding her in death was a granddaughter, Tiffani Harper, a great-granddaughter, Britni Proctor, her parents, two brothers, Bill Burd and Robert Burd and four sisters, Mary Robbins, Anna Mae Bronson, Helen Fitzwater and Verna Groff.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made payable to Heart of America Hospice and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
