Mabel A. Mather 1924 - 2009 Kansas City, Kan.
Kansas City, Kan. — Funeral services for Mabel A. Mather, 85, of Kansas City, Kan., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., in Kansas City, Kan. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Mather died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at the Presbyterian Manor.
She was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Potosi, Mo., the daughter of Mabel Florence and George Harrison Leathers.
Mrs. Mather was a charter member of Wyandotte County Christian Church, where she and her husband were in charge of God’s Store House for many years. She was active in church, community and school activities. She raised Scottish terriers and also enjoyed crocheting, crafts and doll making.
She married Claude O. Mather on Oct. 10, 1940, in Kansas City, Kan. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1993.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth D.; a granddaughter, Shiela Mather-Lisle; a great granddaughter, Catherine A. Austin; a son-in-law, Marshall Goldberg; and brothers Harry F. and Charles L. Leathers and two infant brothers.
Survivors include two daughters, M. Arlyne McGaugh and husband Wendell, Lawrence, and Claudia J. Goldberg, Las Vegas; two sons, Michael D. Mather and wife Elizabeth, Shawnee, and Russell K. Mather, Lansing; a daughter-in-law, Robin Mather, Baldwin City; a brother, Robert H. Leathers and wife Mary Ann, Sibley, Iowa; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will meet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Show-Me Christian Youth Home, sent in care of the funeral home.
