Dorathy J. Bigsby 1925 - 2008 Lawrence

Memorial services for Dorothy J. Bigsby, 82, Lawrence, were Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Private inurnment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Bigsby died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Baldwin Care Center in Baldwin City.
She was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Lawrence, the daughter of Charles L. and Carrie Catherine Hunsinger Henderson. She was a lifetime resident of Douglas County and lived on the family farm south of Lawrence for 52 years. Mrs. Bigsby was a homemaker. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lawrence. She was a 60-year member of Adah Chapter 7, Order of the Eastern Star, a Vinland Valley 4-H community leader for 10 years and project leader for food preservation for 20 years.
She and her family were named the Douglas County 4-H Family of the Year in 1970. She was a 61-year member of the Extension Homemaker Unit program and served for nearly 20 years as a Douglas County Republican precinct committeewoman.
She married Robert R. Bigsby on Jan. 23, 1945, in Lawrence. He survives, of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Karen Finstad, Lenexa, and Carol Keen, Baldwin City; a son, Robert Bigsby Jr., Baldwin City; four grandchildren, Patrick Hurley, Marci Werne and Kalli and Quinton Keen; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Henderson.
