Glenn F. Layton 1931 - 2008 Wellsville

Funeral services for Glenn F. Layton, 77, Wellsville, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Wellsville Baptist Church. The casket will remain closed.
Mr. Layton died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was born March 21, 1931, in Barnsdale, Okla., the son of Glenn F. Sr. and Edythe J. Huffman Layton.
The family moved to the Wellsville area in April of 1932. He attended Garfield grad school, a one-room school in the country, and graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949. He attended Baker University and Independence Junior College where he played football with his brother, Bob.
Mr. Layton worked in the oil fields in his early career and received his real estate license in 1990 and joined his father at Layton Real Estate. In 2005, he was chosen at Business Person of the Year by the Wellsville Chamber of Commerce. He was licensed to the gospel ministry by the Wellsville Baptist Church in 1970 and served as pastor for several churches over the years.
Mr. Layton married Carolyn May Nichols on July 9, 1950. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three daughters, Marci Corwine and husband Steve of Windsor, Colo.; Laura McFarland and husband Don, Trenton, Ga.; and Barbara Kearney and husband Brian, Wellsville; three sons, Rodger Kent Layton, Forest Park, Ill.; Steve Layton and wife Donna, Wellsville; andKurtis Layton and wife Jeaneen, Wellsville; two brothers, Don, Lubbock, Texas, and Robert, Wichita; a sister, Beverly Dumler, Basehor; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
