Janis G. Green 1958 - 2008 Lawrence
Funeral services for Janis G. “Jan” Green, 49, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will follow.
Mrs. Green died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center in Topeka.
She was born Dec. 21, 1958, in Lawrence, the daughter of Bob and Marilyn Broyles. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1977 and Kansas University in 1981. She most recently earned certification in English as a Second Language.
Mrs. Green started her teaching career in Wichita and had been a teacher in the Lawrence school district for 26 years. She taught at Kennedy and Hillcrest schools and most recently at Sunflower School. She also worked for Evan Williams Catering, Lawrence.
She was a member of the Free State High School Booster Club and Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She supported Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Douglas County, and she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma alumna.
Mrs. Green received the Lawrence Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club’s Teacher of the Year Award in 2006. She was a nominee for the Roger Hill Volunteer Center’s Wallace Galluzzi Volunteer of the Year Award in 2001 for her work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters. She also served as a Lawrence Schools Foundation staff liaison for Hillcrest School.
She married Tracy Green on June 17, 1983. He survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Nick, Patrick and Matt, all of Lawrence; her father, Bob Broyles, Baldwin City; a sister, Patti Broyles, Baldwin City; and a brother, Lee Broyles, Baldwin City.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn Broyles.
A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, and the family will meet friends following the rosary until 8 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to the Janis G. Green Memorial Scholarship to benefit Free State High School or the Midwest Transplant Network, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
