Betty J. Bullock 1948 - 2008 Baldwin City
A Celebration of Life for Betty J. Bullock, 59, Baldwin City, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Polsky Theatre in the Carlson Center of Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd, Overland Park. Bright attire is suggested.
Bullock died Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at her home in Baldwin City. She was born Sept. 11, 1948, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of William S. and June (Evans) Bullock. She grew up in Raytown, Mo.
She attended Baker University and earned a Bachelor's degree in sociology in 1970. She went on to earn a Master's degree from the University of Kansas in 1973 and in 1997 she received her Ph.D., also from the University of Kansas.
She worked as an adjunct professor of sociology at JCCC for 17 years before starting full time in 2002. She ended her teaching career as a professor of sociology.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Sigma Honor Society at Baker, long-time member of the Midwest Sociological Society, the Tuesday Reading Club and numerous other activities. In 2007, Bullock received the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Teaching Excellence Award and in 2008 she received a Distinguished Service Award from JCCC.
Survivors include her father, Bill Bullock of Raytown and her son, Evan Durnal and Amanda Carey of Mission.
She was preceded in death by her mother, June.
