In the final installment of the ‘County Line Clash’ the No. 5 ranked Baker Wildcats defeated No. 14 Ottawa, 20-12, on Saturday evening to open up the 2014 season. This marks the fourth-straight win for Baker over Ottawa and it’s the ‘Cats fourth-straight season opening win.
Basehor-Linwood edges Baldwin in overtime, 20-17

Basehor-Linwood sophomore quarterback Justin Phillips scrapped the right pylon at the end of an eight-yard run in overtime, lifting the Bobcats to a 20-14 victory against Baldwin. The overtime was set up after both teams scored two second-half touchdowns.
Baldwin High School cross country teams dominate at Anderson County

The Baldwin High School cross country teams successfully launched their seasons Thursday with first-place finishes at the Jerry Howarter Invitation the in Garnett. The Bulldog boys left little on the table for runners from other teams as six of the first seven runners crossing the finish line were from BHS. The girls had six of the top 20 finishers.

Coaches traditionally like to deflect high expectations, but Baldwin High cross country coach Michael Spielman knows there’s no escape from the high hopes that surround the 2014 Bulldogs. That is true nearly every year for the 4A cross country powerhouse Baldwin with its 10 boys state titles and girls eight championships. But it’s particularly true for the defending state champions boys team. Spielman said the boys would probably be ranked No. 1 in 4A with the initial rankings.

The Baldwin High School volleyball team opened the season with a 2-1 record Tuesday at a home quad. The Bulldogs defeated Bonner Springs (25-11, 22-25, 25-13), lost in three sets to Basehor-Linwood (21-25, 25-17, 20-25) and downed rival Eudora (25-23, 25-23).
