Baldwin falls to De Soto, 1-0, in first-round of state soccer finals

De Soto’s Austin Culver scored with 24 minutes to play, giving the Wildcats the only goal in a 1-0 match that ended Baldwin High School’s soccer season in the first-round of the state playoffs. Baldwin came alive after that goal, mounting a number of strong scoring attacks but could not get the needed goal.

When weather wasn’t keeping it off the field, the Baldwin High School soccer team continued to show signs that it has found answers to recent offensive woes. The Bulldogs’ home match Monday against Louisburg was postponed because of rain and will be made up at 4 p.m. Friday. Its other match of the week, last Thursday at Eudora, was shortened to the first half due to Monday’s storms.

The Baldwin High School volleyball team had two very different experiences in trips this past week to De Soto. On Tuesday, the Bulldogs lost to DHS in three sets, 21-25, 22-25, 21-25. With the loss, the Bulldogs ended Frontier League play at 4-2. What BHS coach Jill Brown termed an “ugly” match came after Baldwin finished third at Saturday’s 12-team De Soto Spikefest.
