Baldwin volleyball team defends Wellsville tourney title, schools arch-rival

As part of a very successful week, the Baldwin High volleyball team successfully defended on Saturday its Wellsville Invitational Tournament title. Making the week more satisfying was three victories against arch-rival Eudora High, who the Bulldogs met its opening round of the tournament, the championship and Tuesday in Frontier League play. Baldwin was dominant at Wellsville, losing only one set on the way to the championship. The Bulldogs did that despite two injuries during the day.

Baldwin competes against Midlands’ best at Rim Rock

The Baldwin Cross Country teams returned home Saturday from the KU Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence with uncharacteristic finishes of 10th for the girls and 19th for the boys. Of course, it wasn’t a typical meet, especially with coach Mike Spielman’s decision that his runners would compete against the best in the Midlands in the meet’s Gold Division.

Baldwin got a walk-off goal from Joel Dixon in the second overtime Tuesday to defeat visiting Spring Hill, 2-1, in Frontier League play. The victory improved the Bulldogs’ season record to 8-1-1 and its league mark to 7-1-1.
