Baldwin High soccer team turns season around with 2-game winning streak

The Baldwin High School soccer team shook off a four-game losing streak with two shutout Frontier League victories in the last week. The Bulldogs started the turnaround with a 2-0 home victory last Thursday against Louisburg. They then went on the road Monday to down defending Frontier League champions Ottawa, 4-0.
Coached pleased with Baldwin volleyball team’s performance in loss

The results might not indicate it, but Baldwin High School coach Jill Brown said the Bulldogs played their best volleyball of the season in a three-set loss Tuesday at Louisburg, 18-25, 14-25, 10-25. Brown said the team was particularly good in the first set.
Baldwin High School cross country teams step up at Baldwin Invitational

The Baldwin Cross Country teams invited some of the state’s top teams to the school’s annual invitational at the Baldwin City Golf Course, and then proved they belonged in such elite company. The girls team finished second in a field loaded with six 5A and 6A teams and had five runners finish in the top 18. Against the same competition plus St. Thomas Aquinas, the boys finished fourth with five runners in the top 30.

The Baker University football team moved to a perfect 4-0 on Saturday with an impressive, 52-21, win over Graceland University and the Wildcats won their eighth-straight game over the Jackets.

The Baldwin High School soccer team losing streak stretched to four Monday when it was unable to take advantage of chances in a 2-0 loss at Eudora. With the loss, the Bulldogs’ season record fell to 1-5 and their Frontier League record dropped to 1-3. Coach Andrew Ising said the Bulldogs had significantly more shots on goal than the Cardinals, outshooting the home team 18 to 6, but could get a kick in the net.

Baldwin High School cross country teams served notice Saturday they are a serious threat to sweep state cross country titles. Both the Bulldog girls and boys team finished first in the Wamego Invitational ran at the Wamego Country Club, which happens to be the course where the state championships are ran in November.

Baldwin holds off Basehor for 21-19 season-opening victory

Baldwin’s defense made a big fourth down stop at midfield with 42 seconds remaining, preserving a season-opening 21-19 victory against visiting Basehor-Linwood. The fourth down stop at Baldwin’s 41 yard line came after the Bobcats moved the ball from its own 13 yard line to the Baldwin 35 behind the passing of junior quarterback Justin Phillips. The drive lost momentum, however, when Basehor was flagged for holding on second-and-10 from the Baldwin 42 and then picked up an illegal procedure call on fourth-and-2 to set up the fourth-down play.
Countdown running for De Bash

The annual De Bash community pep rally will be Friday before Baldwin High School’s season opening football game against Basehor-Linwood at Liston Stadium. Food will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the pep rally will be at about 5:40 p.m. Tickets and this year’s De Bash T-shirts can be purchased at Baldwin City Market or from Baldwin High School teams and organization.
