Baldwin High track teams shine at Wellsville

Before Friday’s Red Bud Classic in Wellsville, Baldwin High School girls track coach Ted Zuzzio foresaw good things for his team if weather cooperated. He wasn’t disappointed. Although sloppy conditions may have hampered girls in the javelin throw at a venue Kelsey Kehll and Kylee Bremer both topped what was then the school record a year ago, the team turned in a number of suburb performances.

The Baldwin High School softball team enjoyed a perfect week, claiming both games of a double-header Thursday against Perry-Lecompton and defeating rival Eudora on Tuesday. The Bulldogs bats carried the team in two of the wins, the 12-8 victory Tuesday at home against Eudora and a 14-10 win in the second game at Perry-Lecompton.

The Baldwin Bulldog baseball team went 2-1 in a tournament at the Community America Ballpark, claiming fifth place in the eight-team event.
Baldwin High School girls soccer wins twice in past week

The Baldwin High School soccer team turned in two impressive second-half performances in claiming a couple of victories in the last week. The two wins, a 3-0 victory last Thursday at Bishop Seabury in Lawrence and a 4-1 win at home Tuesday against Maranatha, were sandwiched around a 1-0 loss at home to Tonganoxie.

The Baker University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team captured another Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday, as the men’s team raced to its fifth-straight conference title, while the women’s team earned its fourth-straight championship.

School soccer team won its third match of the season Monday with an easy 5-0 victory at Tonganoxie. Coach Erryn Kindle said his Bulldogs dominated the match, especially in the first half when it jumped to a 3-0 lead.
