Baker names Lawrence native new baseball coach

Baker University Director of Athletics Theresa Yetmar announced the hiring of Ryan Goodwin as the university’s new head baseball coach. The Lawrence native will join the athletics staff effective July 1. Godwin comes to Baker after serving as the head coach at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, for the past two seasons.

The Baldwin High School girls easily won the school’s third-straight 4A track and field title thanks in no small part to Alexia Stein, Jordan Hoffman and Kelsey Kehl’s domination of the three throwing events. The three throwers racked up 53 of the 85 points Baldwin scored on its way to the state title.

The Baldwin High School softball team atoned for a season of near misses Tuesday by playing its way into the state 4A Division 1 tournament with two victories. Playing on their home field, the Bulldogs rolled over rival Eudora, 14-3, in the regional tournament’s first round before upsetting No. 1 seeded Tonganoxie, 7-6, in the championship game.
