The Baldwin High School boys soccer team suffered through a tough week, dropping two Frontier League games at home. Coach Drew Ising was most unhappy about the Bulldogs’ 5-1 loss Tuesday to De Soto.

Baldwin holds off Basehor for 21-19 season-opening victory

Baldwin’s defense made a big fourth down stop at midfield with 42 seconds remaining, preserving a season-opening 21-19 victory against visiting Basehor-Linwood. The fourth down stop at Baldwin’s 41 yard line came after the Bobcats moved the ball from its own 13 yard line to the Baldwin 35 behind the passing of junior quarterback Justin Phillips. The drive lost momentum, however, when Basehor was flagged for holding on second-and-10 from the Baldwin 42 and then picked up an illegal procedure call on fourth-and-2 to set up the fourth-down play.
Countdown running for De Bash

The annual De Bash community pep rally will be Friday before Baldwin High School’s season opening football game against Basehor-Linwood at Liston Stadium. Food will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the pep rally will be at about 5:40 p.m. Tickets and this year’s De Bash T-shirts can be purchased at Baldwin City Market or from Baldwin High School teams and organization.
Baldwin High School teams claim titles at season-opening cross country event

Baldwin High School swept team titles Thursday at the Anderson County’s Jerry Howarter Invitation cross country meet. The two-time defending state champion boys had six runners place in the top 15, finishing with a team score of 27. The girls had six in the top-12 and seven in the top 18 as they finished with a team score of 19.

The Baldwin High School boys soccer team dominated the second half Tuesday, winning its first match of the year, 4-0, against Paola. The victory evened the Bulldogs’ record at 1-1 and marked Drew Ising’s first win fas head coach of the Baldwin program.

The No. 15 ranked Baker University football team welcomed No. 6 Grand View into the Heart of America Athletic Conference with a 20-15 victory on Saturday afternoon inside Williams Stadium, as this marked the first-ever game in the Heart for the Vikings.

The Baldwin High School soccer team will start the season Friday at Tonganoxie with a new coach at the helm. Coach Mark Joslyn gave up the reins of the Bulldog program after gilding the team to four-straight 1A-4A state tournament berths, including a trip to the state final four in 2013.

Ryan Pitts graduated from Baker in 2006 after a successful athletic career that included NAIA All-American honors as a wide receiver for the football team in 2005 and national indoor and outdoor qualifying performances in the high hurdles in 2006. Now Pitts is taking on a new role at Baker: head coach of the Wildcats’ track and field program.
