- In 1973, having seen only one quilt show and in the midst of taking her first quilting class, Enola Gish made her contribution to the Maple Leaf Festival by starting the Maple Leaf Quilt Show.

- Kit Harris is trying to make this year’s Maple Leaf Run the biggest ever, and thus far he’s feeling confident about reaching that goal.
Harris, a Baldwin City resident, has received numerous registration forms and several other people expressed interest in information about the run.

- Two special guests from Lawrence will be in the annual Maple Leaf Festival grand parade, which begins at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Kansas University mascots Big Jay and Baby Jay will be making the trek from Lawrence to be in the 2010 fall festival parade, according to Jeremy Rodrock, parade committee chair.

- This year’s Maple Leaf Festival Parade grand marshals have direct ties to one of the festival’s co-founders.
In fact, they are the children of Ivan Boyd, a late biology professor at Baker University who helped start the festival in 1958. Roger Boyd and Barbara Pressgrove will be the grand marshals of the 53rd annual festival.

- A change to the layout for craft booths should create more room for foot traffic at the 53rd annual Maple Leaf Festival.
During the past several years, the middle of High Street has been filled with two rows of booths, while there were booths lining the edge of the street, as well. This year, the festival committee decided to allow only one row of booths down the middle of the street.

- It’s that annual time in Baldwin City where thousands of visitors flock to town to shop for homemade crafts, sample delicious foods and view colorful fall foliage.
The Maple Leaf Festival was founded in 1958. City. It’s now celebrated on the third full weekend of October. This year is the 53rd annual celebration of the festival.
