His boss says Baldwin City choose a good time to hire the city’s first assistant public works director. It was announced at the Sept. 8 Baldwin City Council meeting that Dave Flipse was hired to the newly created position. City public works director Bill Winegar said the hire came at a welcome time.
Officials say work on Baldwin City entrances to be finished in time for Maple Leaf Festival

Those responsible for two road projects involving entrances to Baldwin City are confident work on the improvements will be completed in time for the Maple Leaf Festival. Commuters who have been using Douglas County Road 1055 to drive to Vinland and Lawrence despite the route’s summerlong closure at CR North 500 Road found the road closed Monday morning at Baldwin City north city limits.

Douglas County departments show off new public works facility

Douglas County’s Public Works and Zoning and Codes departments were proudly displaying their new home on East 25th Street during an open house Friday. The two departments officially relocated from their original 23rd Street location into their new $14.5 million facilities this April, said Douglas County Director of Public Works Keith Browning.

Baldwin City Council approves $175,000 sewer line extension for industrial park

In what was a mulligan on a do-over, the Baldwin City Council voted 5-0 Monday to construct a sewer to the industrial park for an estimated $175,000. If the sewer line project sounds familiar, it’s because the same sewer line was to be part of a proposed voluntary annexation the council considered last month.

Baldwin City to seek KDHE loan for old-town water line upgrades

The Baldwin City Council approved action Aug. 3 that should lead to better water service for old-town customers. The council authorized city staff to make final application for a revolving loan program the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is offering for water system improvements. City Administrator Chris Lowe said the revolving loan offered the city an attractive funding option for a long-planned water system upgrade in the city’s older neighborhoods.
Baldwin City Administrator Chris Lowe leaving to take Colorado job

Baldwin City Administrator Chris Lowe announced today he was resigning his position to take a similar job in Colorado. Lowe, who was hired as Baldwin City administrator in July 2011, has accepted a position as town manager of Monument, Colo., a city of about 5,800 north of Colorado Springs.
