Baldwin High School volleyball team falls to De Soto
The Baldwin High School volleyball team fell Tuesday to De Soto in a Frontier League match, 18-25, 21-25, 16-25.
Although it has played in the high school gym, the Baldwin Junior High School court hasn’t been available for the team this season as a crew worked to replace the gym floor. The Bulldogs struggled with consistency Tuesday in a match with De Soto for second place in the league behind Louisburg.
“We definitely had moments where we played well and up to our ability in the match,” coach Jill Brown said. “We continue to have a hard time maintaining that intensity throughout a whole set, let alone a match. That is something we will continue to work on.”
Brown gave a nod to senior Emma Burnett for her play in the second set, which saw her record five kills with only one error in eight attempts. Sophomore Kellee Wiggins’ play was another bright spot as she had three kills out of four attempts in the third set and four kills against one error for the match, Brown said. Senior Kyna Smith at libero had 25 digs and a serve-receive rating of 2.1.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs will travel to Wellsville for the Wellsville Invitational.
