Danielle Engle
Born: Abilene. “I spent half my life there and half my life here.”
Family: Engle is the middle child of Dennis and Elaine Engle of Baldwin City.
Education: Her parents homeschooled her and her brother and sister because it gave them a way to instill faith in their educational experience, Engle said. Her father is a sculptor, and her mother draws, paints and dabbles creatively in everything, so they incorporated a lot of artistic education in her homeschooling, she said.
“I spent one semester at a private school before deciding I liked home schooling better,” she said.
Career: Engle is a manager at Moose’s Backyard Barbecue in Baldwin City.
Hobbies: “Reading and drawing. I’ve recently been doing a lot of drawing.”
Digging deeper: Engle said she resisted the art education her parents shared with her while growing up. She is now embracing it, working on her drawing with a goal of a putting together a portfolio so she can apply for an apprenticeship as a tattoo artist.
She and her parents, who are active with the Lumberyard Arts Center, appreciate the community’s support for the arts, Engle said.
“That’s what I love about Baldwin City. There are so many artists here.”
