Baldwin seniors shine for BHS volleyball

October 14, 2015

The Baldwin High School volleyball team captured only one victory in a very busy week, but coach Jill Brown found positives in the play of two seniors.

It wasn’t an easy week for the Bulldogs, starting with a triangular in which the team faced off against the defending 4A Division I state champions and current No. 1 ranked Bishop Miege, losing 19-25, 12-25.

“I was actually pretty happy with how we played at this tough triangular,” Brown said. “We probably played some of our best volleyball this year. (We) knew that if we wanted to compete with them, we couldn’t give them anything easy.  We only had two hitting errors in the match.”

On Saturday, the team traveled to the De Soto Spikefest. The Bulldogs were 0-4 in pool play, starting slow in three matches, Brown said. They did rebound to defeat Spring Hill in their final match of the day.

“Our two seniors, Kelsey Kehl and Emma Burnett took it upon themselves to do whatever they could to win this match,” Brown said. “Kelsey had half of our kills with 13, and only one error to hit .430. Emma (13 assists) did a great job of getting the ball to Kelsey.”

The Bulldogs returned home Tuesday against Paola for its annual Pink Out night. The Bulldogs lost in three sets, 12-25, 18-25, 24-26.
