Baker womens soccer team earns trip to NAIA national tournament
The No. 11 ranked Baker University women’s soccer team advanced past No. 20 ranked Viterbo with a 1-0 win in the opening round of the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship.
The Wildcats will now match up against No. 8 Spring Arbor on Tuesday in Orange Beach, Ala., in the Final site of the national tournament.
Spring Arbor defeated Carroll (Mont.), 3-0, on Saturday in its opening round match.
Megan Johnson scored the contest’s lone goal in the fifth minute and finished the night with three shots.
The 2015 HAAC Defensive Player of the Year Krista Hooper and Second Team All-Conference performer Keeley Atkin each sent four shots toward the goal, to led Baker in that category.
2015 Heart First Team All-Conference goalkeeper Rachel Hunt ended the night with six saves. Baker outshot Viterbo, 16-12.
