Baker soccer men advance past opening round, play next in NAIA tournament in Florida
The No. 3 ranked Baker University men’s soccer team captured a 2-0 win over Wiley College in the ppening round of the NAIA Mens Soccer National Championship tournament and will now take on No. 14 Columbia on Tuesday in Delray Beach, Fla., at the final site of the NAIA National Championship.
Columbia defeated Ashford University, 2-0, in Columbia, Mo., on Saturday in its opening round matchup.
This marked the third-straight season Baker had advanced to the NAIA opening round and first trip to the final site since the 2013 season.
The Wildcats improved to 18-3-1 on the year and Wiley ends its season 8-6-1 overall. The match was scoreless into halftime and then Baker broke through with a goal from 2015 HAAC Most Valuable Player Amer Didic in the 55th minute. It marked the 10th goal of the season for the NAIA All-American.
Then Andrew Miller scored on a beautiful goal in the 74th minute when he placed the ball in the upper 90 past keeper Erik Reyes.
Baker outshot Wiley, 13-5, and Didic led all players with four shots. Ryan Emme had four saves on the night.
