Face to Face: Chad Scoby
Born: Scoby was born and raised in Baldwin City. “My parents have lived in the same house on Santa Fe Drive all my life.”
Family: Wife, Carrie, and daughters, Ella,11, and Logyn, 5.
Education: After graduating from Baldwin High School in 1994, Scoby went on to get a degree in elementary education and his middle school certification from Kansas State University in 1998. He completed his master’s degree from Baker University in 2009. “I’ve got the Wildcats covered,” he said.
Hobbies: Fishing, coaching and watching his daughters play sports.
Career: Scoby is now seventh-grade math teacher at Baldwin Junior High School. After completing his bachelor’s degree, Scoby taught for two years at Liberty Junior High School in Liberty, Mo. He returned to the Baldwin school district to teach four years at Vinland Elementary School before he was hired him to teach at the junior high, where he has been the past eight years. “That’s the age group I really like to teach. They are still kids, but becoming adults. You can have great conversations with them. They are still young enough to be a little scared of teachers.”
Digging deeper: Scoby said returning to Baldwin City has worked out for him and his wife, a BHS Class of 1995 graduate. “We like the fact our daughters are growing up in a small town. It’s been a really special place for us.”
