After four years, Baldwin High School senior wrestler Jon Pratt doesn’t know what it’s like to lose in the Frontier League championship meet.

Pratt won his fourth individual league title at 152 pounds Saturday at Eudora and helped Bulldog wrestlers maintain their grip on the Frontier League crown by winning the team’s fourth-straight title.

The senior said this year’s individual league title was the most gratifying because he secured it during his last match of the day against a state-ranked Spring Hill wrestler.

“This is probably the hardest because I had to beat the No. 3 wrestler,” he said.

Baldwin coach Kit Harris said the Bulldogs dominated in the duals. It’s closest match was a 47-21 victory against De Soto. Baldwin score at least 50 points in its five other matches, including a 71-12 blowout of host Eudora, and outscored its opponents overall, 330-114.

The team finished the year 15-2 in dual match competitions, and avenged one of its losses with a decisive 59-18 victory Saturday against Ottawa.

The Bulldogs brought home plenty of individual medals from the meet. Harris said 12-of-14 Bulldogs placed and six claimed titles in their weight classes. Four Baldwin wrestlers were repeat champions. Joining Pratt with individual championships were sophomore Levi Green at 106 pounds, freshman Griffin Wehrman at 120 pounds, junior Ben Morgenstern and 126 pounds, sophomore Thomas Lisher at 138 pounds, and junior Owen Tuckfield at 160 pounds. Morgenstern, Lisher and Tuckfield were all repeat champions.

The Bulldogs will next host the 16-team 4A regional meet Friday and Saturday at the Baldwin Junior High School gym. It’s an exciting prospect for Pratt and his teammates on the No. 1 ranked 4A Bulldog team.

“The last time we hosted a regional we qualified eight for state,” Pratt said. “We want to have that many or more so we can bring home the first state championship to Baldwin.”

The team will be at full-strength for the regional push, Pratt said. Everyone is healthy and junior twins Jake and Joel Katzer will be available the next two weekends after missing the league meet for club hockey.
