The Maple Leaf Festival Committee will help two Baldwin High School students study for future careers in medicine.

This year’s Maple Leaf Festival scholars are BHS seniors Gunther Wehrman and Corey Valentine. In addition to winning scholarships, the two will be honored with a place in Saturday’s parade

Both students plan to pursue careers in medicine. Wehrman said he planned to attend Kansas University Pharmacy School. To enhance his chances of getting into the school, he’s taken all the science classes he can in high school and a number college credit or advanced placement classes in other areas, he said.

Valentine, the daughter of Marilee Valentine Beins and the late Jeffrey Valentine, plans to attend Kansas State University. Valentine will study become a physicians assistant or some other career in medicine.

Wehrman, the son of Tod and Rhonda Latham, said he was looking forward to the festival.

“I just like it because there is stuff everywhere,” he said. “There’s so much there, there’s bound to be something you like.”
