Baker player named to NAIA All-American women’s basketball team
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Baker University senior point guard BriAnna Garza was selected a 2013-14 Division I Women’s Basketball Third Team All-American announced on Wednesday.
Players were selected by the NAIA-Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association All-America Committee, with each team—first, second and third—consisting of 11 members.
She is the first All-America selection from Baker since Alisha Fanshier was named a 2012-13 Honorable Mention All-American.
Garza had a stellar season for the 2013-14 Heart of America Athletic Conference regular season champion Wildcats.
The 2013-14 HAAC Player of the Year led Baker in scoring at 14.6 points per game and led the HAAC in assists per game at 4.59.
The Austin, Texas native also hit a team-high 66 three-point fields, led the team in total free-throws made with 155 and had a team high 46 steals.
She was stellar at the NAIA National Championship tournament in Frankfort, Ky., scoring 24 points in the Wildcats First Round win over No. 23 University of the Cumberlands and 25 in the NAIA Second Round loss to Bethel (Tenn.).
