Baldwin City mourned last week the death of a girl killed in a western Kansas car wreck. Alexis “A.J.” Jo Woolsonscroft, 12, of Baldwin City and Ottawa and her 17-year-old step-brother John Louis Smith, of Ottawa, died in a three-car accident June 9 on Interstate 70 in Trego County.

Baldwin City to refinance last of its existing debt

The Baldwin City Council gave city staff the authority Monday to move forward with the refinancing the last of city’s existing bonded debt. City Administrator Chris Lowe told the council the city’s financial consultant, Tom Kaleko of Springsted Financial, estimated the refinancing of the remaining $5.5 million owed from a 2005 20-year $9.1 bond issue for electrical improvements would save the city $533,000 as it was retired in the next 10 years
Baldwin City community makes bike camp a successs

After a brief rest last Thursday morning in the Baldwin High School gymnasium bleachers, Kaden Studley raced back to his bicycle on the gym floor. As his mother, Gayle Studley of Ottawa, looked on from the bleachers, her son launched himself forward to start circling the gymnasium, sometimes weaving in and out of cones set up on one side of the floor. When he arrived June 9 for the first session of the ICan Shine Bicycle Camp at the high school, Studley didn’t know how to ride a bicycle, his mother said.
