Haskell Avenue set to reopen Monday in southern Lawrence
In what is good news for commuters of east Lawrence destinations, the Kansas Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that Haskell Avenue will be reopened at its southern entry into Lawrence.
County Road 1055, the quickest route from Baldwin City to east or central Lawrence destinations, becomes Haskell Avenue at the southern Lawrence city limits.
Haskell Avenue has been closed since January from 27th to 31st streets in Lawrence with the start of construction of the South Lawrence Trafficway. The KDOT announcement said the street would reopen at 9 a.m. Monday, weather permitting.
Northbound traffic will have to jog east from the existing Haskell Avenue to a relocated section of the street at 29th Street and southbound traffic will have the reverse the process.
With the reopening of Haskell Avenue, 31st Street will be closed west of Wakarusa Township fire station. With the closing, traffic from CR 1055 will no longer have access to Louisiana Street, which will also be closed south of the southern-most entry to Broken Arrow Park.
