Very high fire danger issued for Douglas County

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a "very high fire danger" warning for Douglas County and other parts of central and northern Kansas.

Outdoor burning is not recommended today and tonight as gusts are forecasted to reach as high as 30 miles per hour and relative humidity levels drop. Several fires have been reported in Douglas County already this week.

Heading into Friday, there is a 30 to 40 percent chance of snow, with winds blowing up to 15 miles per hour.

Other counties under the fire warning are Republic, Washington, Marshall, Nemaha, Brown, Cloud, Clay, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Jefferson, Ottawa, Dickinson, Geary, Morris, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Lyon, Osage, Franklin, Coffey and Anderson.
