County health department to make flu shots in Baldwin City
The Douglas County Health Department will have flu shot available from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Baldwin City Recreation Commission office, 705 High St.
The Health Department also offers flu shots on a walk-in basis during clinic
hours. No appointment is necessary.
The shots will be given on a walk-in basis, so no appointment in needed. The cost of the shots is $25 for children ages 6 months to 35 months and $30 for those 3 years of age or older. C
Clients eligible for Medicare Part-B, HealthWave, Medicaid and
Blue Cross/Blue Shield can receive the flu shot at no charge if they bring their
card at the time of vaccination.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6
months of age and older should get a yearly flu vaccine. Getting the vaccination
is the most effective way to avoid getting the flu, a contagious respiratory illness.
Influenza can cause mild to severe symptoms and can lead to death. More than
30,000 people die each year from flu complications and more than 200,000
people are hospitalized. Those most at-risk are infants and young children, older
adults and pregnant women.
