Five questions: Help for Habitat
The Kansas City-area chapter of Habitat for Humanity is in need of some help and has issued a challenge for the month of August. Vanessa Little, volunteer coordinator, discusses the challenge below.
Q: What area does Heartland Habitat for Humanity cover?
A: Serving Wyandotte, Johnson and Leavenworth counties in Kansas and Clay and Platte counties in Missouri. To volunteer, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 913-342-3047.
Q: What do you need volunteers for?
A: We have three times more projects scheduled than volunteers available, so we issued a challenge in search of businesses and organizations interested in joining forces to impact local families and neighborhoods.
Q: How will the challenge work?
A: Through the end of August, Heartland Habitat is offering a sweet reward to the business or organization that supports Heartland Habitat with the greatest number of volunteer hours. The staff of Heartland Habitat will dish out recognition and thanks with an ice cream social for the winning group.
Q: Who can volunteer?
A: Volunteer opportunities are available for those age 16 and older. Training is provided; no construction experience is necessary. Often, Heartland Habitat volunteers will work side-by-side with the family who will live in the Heartland Habitat home, allowing volunteers to experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of homeownership.
Q: How do I get involved with Habitat for Humanity in Douglas County?
A: Lawrence Habitat for Humanity is based at 720 Connecticut St., Lawrence, 785-832-0777, and can be found online at lawrencehabitat.org.
