November 17, 2012

The Baker University men’s basketball team improved to 5-1 on the season and went a perfect 2-0 in its host Baker Classic tournament with a 65-48 win over McPherson College at the Collins Center.

The Wildcats received a game high 21 points from senior leader Ben Steinlage and held the Bulldogs to just 32.1-percent shooting from the floor and caused 16 turnovers.

Steinlage was the only player to score in double figures for the Wildcats, but Baba Diallo and Kevin Lysaught each scored nine points. Diallo was nearly perfect from the field shooting 4-of-5.

The Wildcat defense held McPherson to the lowest point total that any team has scored against Baker and is the second team to score 50 points or less against BU.

Baker went into halftime with a 35-25 lead and outscored the Bulldogs, 30-23, in the second half.

Samer Jassar tied for the team lead Baker in rebounds with six and picked up a block and two assists, Steinlage also grabbed six boards.

Julian Mills led the Wildcats in assists with five and Chris Lockhart nailed two three-pointers to lead Baker.

The Wildcats had 11 steals on the day and Todd Eils had an impressive five and Jordan Honore grabbed three.

Baker will return home next Tuesday, Nov. 20 before the Thanksgiving break as they host Ottawa University at 7 p.m.
