Bridge replacement closes 1057 near K-10
On Monday, the Kansas Department of Transportation closed a portion of Douglas County Road 1057 to a bridge replacement project.
The bridge to be replaced replacement project is about three miles east of Lawrence and 1/2 half mile south of Kansas Highway 10.
As of Monday, the bridge will be closed to all traffic at K-10 approximately a half mile north of the bridge and at County Route 458 south of the bridge. A marked detour will be provided via K-10 east to Route 1061 (E 2200 Road/Church Street in Eudora), then south to County Route 458 or North 1000 Road. Local access to properties within the road closure will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
The project will replace the existing structurally deficient bridge that was constructed in 1957. The bridge deck is in poor condition, and the bridge is currently posted for a 15-ton load limit. The existing bridge is 394 feet long with a 24-foot roadway width. The new bridge will be 410 feet long with a 36-foot roadway width (two 12-foot wide driving lanes with two 6-foot wide shoulders).
Comanche Construction Inc. of Shawnee Mission is the primary contractor on this $2.75 million bridge replacement project. Project work is scheduled to be completed by December 2012, weather permitting.
This project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010.
