No. 10 Baker men improve to 9-0 on the season
The Baker University men’s soccer team remains undefeated as it defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan University 4-2 on Tuesday evening.
Ethan Bauer put Baker on the scoreboard early with a quick turnaround blast from 30-yards out in the 13th minute.
Andy Griffin added to the tally in the 29th minute when he put a header in off a corner kick from Tom Lowndes and Cameron Zimmerman would add to that tally in the 35th minute to give BU a 3-0 lead at the break.
Ben Rummage gave OWU its first goal of the game in the 79th minute, but Baker quickly responded as Donny George scored on a throw-in from Sean McAlister. OWU got one final goal two minutes later courtesy of Victor Duarte, but it wouldn’t be enough as time expired with BU controlling the game.
No. 12 BU women cruise past Oklahoma Wesleyan
The 12th-ranked Baker women’s soccer team improved to 6-1 on the year Tuesday evening defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan University, 3-0.
Bailey Sosa put the Wildcats on the board first with a goal in the 42nd minute courtesy of a great ball into the box from Alix Schiraldi. Baker took a 1-0 lead into halftime and never looked back.
Schiraldi gave BU its second goal just four minutes out of the break on a ball from Ashley Ukena. Alexa Fryer added a goal 10 minutes later as Baker cruised to the 3-0 victory.
The Wildcats outshot Oklahoma Wesleyan 22-4, nine of which were on target. Goalkeeper Maggie Dupes played 74 minutes and faced only three shots. Rachel Theobald relieved Dupes in the final 15 minutes and made one save in the contest.
Missouri Valley topples Baker football, 38-7
No. 6-ranked Missouri Valley rolled to a 38-7 victory over No. 22 Baker in Heart of America Athletic Conference football on Saturday in Marshall, Mo.
Baker scored its only touchdown with four minutes remaining as Sam Vossen connected with Kyle Bolton for a 25-yard touchdown pass, the longest play of the game for the Wildcats (3-2 overall and 2-2 in the HAAC).
The Wildcats gained just 22 yards on 28 attempts. Missouri Valley (4-0, 3-0) racked up 487 total yards of offense.
Kyle Bolton finished as the Baker’s top receiver with five catches and 100 yards with one touchdown. Quarterback Jake Morse completed 12 of 18 passes for 122 yards.
The Wildcats will play host to No. 9 MidAmerica Nazarene at 1 p.m. Saturday at Liston Stadium.
Wildcat runners earn HAAC weekly honors
Sophomore Lauren Jaqua and junior Aaron Caldwell have been named HAAC Runners of the Week the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Jaqua claimed the top spot with a time of 18:46 over 5,000 meters at the Baker Open. She was less than a second off of her personal best time set last season at Fort Hays State.
Caldwell took 2nd place with a time of 26:49 on the Baker Open 8K course. His time was a full 10 seconds better than he ran last season on the same course.
