Bulldogs shutout league rivals to complete season sweeps
Baldwin High School's boys' soccer squad completed a pair of sweeps over Frontier League opponents during the past week.
The Bulldogs (9-3-1) defeated Eudora at home last Thursday before winning a road game at Louisburg on Tuesday. They shutout both league rivals. First it was a 5-0 victory over Eudora and then a 4-0 win against Louisburg.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs beat the Wildcats for the second time this season. The Wildcats had beaten the Bulldogs several times during the past four years, but this year the Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 12-1.
“It was another good win for us,” coach Mark Joslyn said. “I thought we played well. We scored three times in the first half. It's a small field and difficult to score there, but we had really good ball movement and our keeper played well. It was an all-around good effort.”
Baldwin scored early and often against Louisburg. BHS led 3-0 at halftime before scoring the final goal early in the second half. Sophomore Nick Joslyn scored the Bulldogs' final goal. His brother, senior Louis Joslyn, earned the assist on a corner kick.
L. Joslyn booted a free kick into the net in the first half to give BHS a 3-0 lead. Senior Caleb Michels scored the opening two goals of the game.
“Both goals happened about the exact same way,” coach Joslyn said. “Mason kicked a goal kick and Louis headed it to Caleb. Then Caleb kicked it in from the right side both times. They were really nice plays.”
Five different Bulldogs scored against the Cardinals. They were L. Joslyn, Michels, N. Joslyn, sophomore Russell Cloon and senior Zac Leeker.
“The defense played well throughout the match, as did the midfield,” coach Mark Joslyn said. “We looked very sharp in the attacking half. After three games in four days, the boys will rest and be prepared for Louisburg and Ottawa.”
Baldwin will play two of its final three regular season games at home. BHS will host Ottawa at 4 p.m. today and Maranatha Academy at 4 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' final regular season game will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at De Soto.
