The Baldwin Bulldogs won two state championships here this evening — they tied for the boys and girls titles.

The BHS girls won the 1,600 relay in a time of 4:04.96 and Colby finished sixth. After the team points were totaled, the two teams tied for the team championship with 41 points.

Baldwin boys finished third in the 1,600 relay, which was just good enough to tie Louisburg for the team title. BHS ran 3:26.37 in the relay.

There will be features on both teams and stories on the meet in Thursday’s Signal.

Brian Wright and Kaitlyn Barnes each finished fourth in the 800-meter run. Wright ran 2:00.3, while Barnes ran 2:20.75 in her race.

In the team race, the BHS boys are tied with Louisburg with 37 points. The team title comes down to Louisburg’s 200-meter runner versus Baldwin’s 1,600 relay.

In the girls race, Baldwin is third with 31 points. Colby leads with 39 points and El Dorado has 34 points. Baldwin will need to win the 1,600 relay and if Colby finishes sixth, they tie for the title. However a seventh- or eight-place finish by Colby and a Baldwin win would give the Bulldogs the title.

Check back shortly to see how the team title races ended.

Baldwin has had several state medalists during the last couple of hours. Following the 100 dash, Brian Wright finished third in the 1,600-meter run. He ran a personal-best time of 4:25.32.

In the 400 relay, the BHS girls finished sixth, two places ahead of their prelims finish. The relay team of Lyndsey Lober, Elena Watson, Ramie Burkhart and Samantha Meisenheimer ran 51.25.

In the 400-meter dash, Morgan Lober finished third in the girls race, while Asher Hannon placed fourth in the boys race. They ran 59.78 and 51.18.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the 300-meter hurdles. Ramie Burkhart and Carson Barnes are scheduled to run.

Asher Hannon finished seventh in the 100 dash. His time was 11.37 and he earned the Bulldogs one team point. The BHS are in fifth place as a team with 17 points.

Brian Wright will be running the 1,600-meter run in about 25 minutes. Following Wright will be the 400 relays and the 400-meter dash. Hannon and Morgan Lober are in the 400 dash and both BHS teams are in the relay finals.

Baldwin High’s boy’s 3,200 relay finished 11th in a time of 8:41.89. Kyle Garcia filled in for Brian Wright to anchor the Bulldogs. In my opinion, since the Bulldogs needed a great race to even medal, coach Mike Spielman held Wright out and rested him for the 1,600-meter run, which is scheduled for 2 p.m. The other relay members were Tosh Mihesuah, Ethan Hartzell and Tony Weiss.

Asher Hannon is due up in the finals of the 100 dash very soon.

Allison Howard was the other state medalist of the day for the girls’ team. She placed fifth in the discus and became a four-time medalist in the event. Howard threw 119-11 in the discus.

Next on the track is the boys’ 3,200 relay.

The Bulldogs have their first medalist of the day. Carson Barnes just finished third in the 4A boys long jump. He jumped 21 feet, 6.75 inches to earn his first state medal of the weekend. He also earned the BHS boys six team points as they fight for the team championship.

In the 100-meter dash prelims, Asher Hannon qualified for the finals, which are set to run at 12:50 p.m. He finished eighth in the prelims. Hannon will run five races today, as he also qualified for finals in the 400-meter dash, 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay.

Next up for the Bulldogs is Allison Howard in the discus. She is a three-time medalist and searching for her fourth state medal in the event.

Hello and welcome to Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium. We’re here for the second and final day of the state track and field meet. It’s overcast skies and hopefully the rain is all done for the day.

Baldwin High School’s teams had a good first day of action. The Bulldogs earned four medals in three field events and qualified for the finals in most races. Click here for a link to my recap from yesterday.

First up this morning will be Carson Barnes in the Class 4A boys’ long jump. The event has begun and he is in the second flight so he will begin competition shortly. Asher Hannon will also run the 100-meter dash prelims, which is set to begin at 9 a.m. with 1A.

BHS will run the 3,200-meter relays shortly after 10 a.m. and then the rest of running events on the track. In the field events, Allison Howard will throw discus at 9:45 a.m. and Jake Mindez will throw javelin at 3 p.m.

Check back throughout the day for results from today’s action.
